History Poster

I chose the Statue of Liberty because of what it means to me. It is not just the gateway to America. She stands for freedom a chance for a better life. She gave hope to all to that came to America. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France in 1886. The Statue's head is your focal point with her crown point forcing your eye to what is inscribed on the base of the Statue. I think my design favors that of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

3 Favorite Designs

My three favorite designs out of the few I chose from would be.

  • The Casablanca poster-this poster captures the passion between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. The light behind the two captures the intimacy, immediately you know the movie is a love story. This is your focal point. Where their chins meet pushes your eye to the bottom of the poster causing you to look to closely at the other image. This image is well balanced with the two heads and the font on top of the poster. This poster has a Russian Constructivism theme.
  • Rocky- What can I say this poster is an icon. Rocky staying there with arms up in the middle of Philadelphia (focal point) directing your eyes up to the big bold text. The picture of Rocky is centered. This poster has a Russian Constructivism theme.
  • The Wizard of Oz- Dorothy's ruby red slippers. Lots of white space, yet elegant. The slippers are not centered. The sparkle of on the tips of the shoes capture the significance of the shoe. This poster has an Art Deco theme.

Stamp Essay -March 2009

In my design I used an organic shape that resembles that of the baseball field. The orange organic shape with the B-Mets in the center immediately moves your eye to the baseball field. The colors that were used are that of the team.
My organic shapes were created in Adobe Illustrator and then were pulled into Adobe Photoshop for the finishing touches.
The Art Deco design inspired me with both designs.

3 Favorite Stamps

My favorite stamps are The Beach, the Red Rose and the Callalilies. They all make me feel relaxed. I paticularly like the Beach the color of the blue water is very calming the sunshinning over the beach makes me dream of the heat and wishing it was here.I like how it is asymmetrical and your eye flows from one side to the other. The Red rose well... I love red roses when I look at it the scent comes to mind. The bright red color is very strong and powerful and fills the stamp completely. The Callalilies are beautiful as they are. The orange and yellow flower gives contrast next to its dark green leaves. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do.

Essay -Pearl Harbor

My design was inspired by Pearl Harbor and the destruction that was to bring the United States into WWII. I created a design that would resemble the United States Military since the bombing took place were several ships lied. My design was created to move your eye from top to bottom. The focal point is a resting place in the center were the date is. The words Pearl Harbor are on a curve to reflect the bottom of a ship. The words December at the top are large and bold as this is an important time and date in history. The design takes on a form that is asymetrical and that of a Navy Chief Petty Officer insignia. I chose this layout because I liked how it is clean and simple. This period of time there was much death and destruction.

Harry Potter and the principles of Art & Design

This image of Harry Potter is large in proportion and scale compared to that of Voldemort. The focal point is Harry himself. Harry's head and wand point right at you with domination and redirecting your eye moving to were the bubble with Voldemort is in. There is a lot of accent and contrast in the background the bright light gradating behind him and behind the organic shape give a lot of weight and have a dynamic relationship with each other. It draws your eye to the bottom left. The red stripe that is in Harry's cape is bold and flows off the page giving you a sense that the wind is blowing. It keeps your eye moving giving it some balance.

The font that is used in the title is unique to that of the movie. It is of a scale that is not over bearing and is in perspective to that of the poster.
